What to expect when you visit

Sunday morning schedule
Early Service – 9:00 AM
Sunday School – 10:00 AM
Late Service – 11:00 AM

Early Service – 9:00 a.m.
The Early Service is a new worship experience at First United Methodist Church of West Newton. Using a blend of musical styles, practical preaching, and an intentionally casual and intimate atmosphere, the service addresses questions of faith in accessible ways. Emphasis is placed on experiencing God “between the Sundays,” and challenging you to re-think your perception and understanding of church.

Sunday School – 10:00 a.m.
Children’s Sunday School classes meet downstairs. There are two adult Sunday School classes; one meets upstairs in the sanctuary, and the other meets downstairs. Teen Sunday school meets in the basement.  All Sunday School classes are always open to visitors.

Late Service – 11:00 a.m.
The service lasts about an hour. Worship consists of traditional hymns and more contemporary choruses, responsive readings and affirmations, communal prayer, the reading and preaching of Scripture, and celebration of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

Dress
We have no dress code here. Some attend worship here in suits, others attend in jeans. After all, Jesus wore sandals!

Nursery
We do have a nursery available during 11 a.m. worship for young children. It is located downstairs in the back left corner of the social hall.

Let the little children come to worship!
We welcome children in our worship service as it adds excitement and energy. There is no separate service for children, but there is a children’s message during the 11 a.m. service.  Following the children’s message, young children are invited, but not required, to move to the nursery.

Parking
On Sunday mornings ONLY, street parking is available on both sides of Second Street, and limited parking is available in the lot behind the Flower Depot across the street.  All other times of the week, street parking is available only on the west (river) side of Second Street.
